Kinemetrics is supplying the Aspen Environmental
Monitoring System to monitor seismic activities in
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The network consists of 32 Aspen field stations equipped
with STS-2 broadband and SS-1 short-period seismometers.
The data is digitized by the Quanterra Q730, a true
24-bit data-logger.
The data is transmitted via spread spectrum transceiver
links and leased telephone lines to the Aspen data
center located at the King Abdulaziz City for Science
and Technology (KACST) in Riyadh. In addition, the
King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah sub-network is
recording data from seven stations. The Jeddah center
is also linked to KACST by a 64kbps digital line (ISDN).
Kinemetrics Antelope, consisting of three SUN SPARCstations,
is providing a disk ring buffer of continuous data
for 7 days for all channels and for 70 days using online
mass storage devices. The Antelope is also providing
automatic event detection, arrival picking, event location
and magnitude, graphing and reporting within tens of
seconds.
The Antelope Seismic Information System (ASIS) is
used to process and manage the data using the Center
Seismic Studies CSS. 3.0 schema.
